Henrik Pathirane’s exhibition for ¶ in range() is a spatial essay that includes animations and text.

The essay explores open systems that change over time. In this context, the artist has considered paths, mistakes, looking back, aging, production chains, changes in microbiological, plant, and animal populations, hysteresis, lags, stickiness, societal norms and experiences that evolve over time, construction sites, and Umberto Eco’s Opera Aperta

And furthermore: the human mind as a binding force in flowing (thick, pouring) time. The body. The original existence of countless feedback loops.

As one kind of a dynamic system, the exhibition also reflects on itself: paragraphs, shifts of meaning, gaps between paragraphs, dispersal, accumulation, transformation in repetitive structures, and developing trajectories within an open, non-hierarchical whole.

From art history, Tournai’s late 15th-century tapestries, Albrecht Dürer’s Melencolia I, Hokusai’s views of Mount Fuji, Anni and Josef Albers, Florine Stettheimer, Marcel Duchamp, and M. C. Escher have indirectly or directly influenced the exhibition.

Henrik Pathirane works with conceptual art, text and glyph-based visual art, poetry, and hybrid texts. His previous solo exhibition was at Galleria Huuto in 2024. Pathirane is a doctoral researcher in aesthetics and carries out experimental publishing activities under the name Humahdus. Pathirane’s artistic work is supported by the Kone Foundation from 2024 to 2026.
